Jamshedpur, Jan 18: In a devastating incident near Gamharia Railway Station in Seraikela Kharsawan district, four individuals lost their lives after being struck by the Utkal Express. The incident occurred on Thursday around 5:30 pm when the Utkal Express, en route from Haridwar to Bhubaneswar, was passing through the railway track.
Eyewitnesses report that the victims, residents of a nearby slum, were crossing the railway line when the tragedy unfolded. Due to dense fog near Gamharia railway station, the Utkal Express collided with the pedestrians, resulting in immediate fatalities. The bodies have not yet been identified, and there are concerns that the number of casualties may increase.

Upon receiving the information, authorities, including Tatanagar Railway Police, Adityapur, Gamharia, and RIT police stations, swiftly responded to the scene. A medical van was dispatched by Tatanagar Railway GRP to assist in the emergency.
Railway operations on the affected track were disrupted for approximately two hours as rescue and clearance efforts were underway. The area railway manager, Tatanagar, Abhishek Singhal, confirmed that services of Vande Bharat Express, Duronto, and other trains were impacted by the incident.
The tragic collision occurred at railway pole number 260/18-22 of West Yard near Gamharia Railway Station. Local authorities, including railway police and officials, seized the bodies and transported them to Tatanagar for post-mortem.
The identities of the deceased remain unknown, and the reasons for the incident are under investigation. Clearing the track and restoring normal railway operations were top priorities for the rescue teams. The accident spot, described as dark, witnessed the efforts of the medical team in retrieving the bodies and initiating track-clearing procedures.
