Majhgaon: Govardhan Nayak, the former tribal welfare minister of the undivided Bihar state government, passed away at the age of 85 at his residence in Chhota Raikhaman, Kumardungi block, West Singhbhum. He had been unwell for an extended period and was undergoing treatment in Orissa.
Govardhan Nayak, a former MLA from the Mazgaon assembly in West Singhbhum district, maintained a simple lifestyle, even during his tenure as a minister. He remained connected to agriculture in his village after stepping back from politics around 20 years ago. Known for his popularity in the region during the mid-’90s, he served as the Tribal Welfare Minister, appointed by then CM Lalu Prasad. His simple attire, with a dhoti in one hand and a towel in the other, became his post-political identity.
The last rites will be performed at his ancestral residence.
