Jamshedpur, Feb 7: The ambitious project of foot overbridge being built at Tatanagar railway station at a cost of Rs 1.90 crore will not be completed in the month of February. The target to complete the project was set for the month of February itself. However, some of the important work is still pending.
Chakradharpur Railway Division’s DRM Vijay Kumar Sahu is putting efforts to complete the project in time. With the completion of the foot overbridge, the second entry gate of the station will also be started. Work on this has been going on for a decade. It is still pending due to several screws in the work. In this work, many earlier contractors have also caused loss of lakhs to the railways.
Meanwhile, the work on platform number five of Tatanagar railway station has been completed. The second entry will be started after the foot overbridge is connected to the Burmamines end.
With the completion of the station’s second entry work, half the population of the city will benefit from it. People of Burmamines, Telco, Golmuri, Baridih, Sakchi, Sidhgora, Baradwari, Mango, Govindpur, Jemco etc. will get its benefit. Rail passengers can park their cars and bikes only in the Burmines station parking lot. After this, a ticket counter has also been built right next door.
Funds to the tune of Rs 1.75 crore have already been spent for developing the second entrance, work for which began in 2010.
The official went on to say that work for the foot overbridge on the Chakradharpur end of the railway station will be of great advantage. “The old abandoned bridge was converted into a foot overbridge. This will also benefit passengers entering the railway station from the Burmamines-end, the second entry to the railway station,” he said.
The Tatanagar station assumes importance as it falls on the Howrah-Mumbai route. Several important trains travel via Tatanagar, including the Rajdhani Express and Duronto Express.
The Tatanagar station assumes importance because it is located on the Howrah-Mumbai main route. Several important trains travel via Tatanagar, including the high-profile Rajdhani Express and Duronto Express. The station sees a daily traffic of 90 mail, express and passenger trains, besides a footfall of more than 60,000 passengers.
“Tatanagar is significant because it falls on the Howrah-Mumbai main line. It is the busiest passenger junction in the state and hosts around 80 trains every day. Dhanbad, which is a much smaller station, has escalators,” senior functionary of the passenger association U.K. Srivastava reasoned.
