Jamshedpur, Feb 7: CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), Jamshedpur organised a workshop on COVID-19 – An Awareness on Health and Safety recently on a virtual platform. The event was organised under DST-Women Technology Park in association with the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India and National Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Technology (NIAMT), formerly known as NIFFT, Ranchi.
The main objective of the programme was to spread awareness among the people about the importance of good health and the safety protocols they are expected to follow in this pandemic situation.
Mita Tarafder, chief scientist and head of KRIT Division at CSIR-NML delivered the welcome address. She welcomed the guest speaker and the audience and briefly introduced the DST project on Women Technology Park (WTP). As mentioned by her, the objective of this DST project (supported by SEED) is capacity building and entrepreneurship development for women of Jharkhand. Various programs like a certificate program, job-oriented training and need assessment study have been planned which will be implemented jointly by CSIR-NML and NIAMT. Establishing an incubation centre and a common facilitation centre for women entrepreneurs is also a part of the WTP programme, as highlighted by Dr. Tarafder.
The guest speaker of the evening program was Dr. A. K. Arya, Sr. Medical Officer, CSIR-NML. He highlighted all aspects of Covid-19 and explained how one can reduce the risk of getting infected by following the guidance given by local authorities and all other protocols announced at national and regional levels. He elaborated on steps that everybody should take to protect himself or herself and others around them and emphasized on the importance of getting vaccinated. He informed the audience about all the symptoms usually exhibited by the patients and advised on when to seek emergency medical attention. He addressed a number of issues related to Covid vaccination. The presentation was very informative.
There was a question and answer session following the presentation of Dr. Arya. The virtual program was attended by more than 40 people.
