Jamshedpur: Air travel to and from the state capital, Ranchi, witnessed significant disruption on Wednesday as dense fog and poor visibility led to the cancellation of multiple scheduled flights at Birsa Munda Airport, Ranchi.
The adverse weather conditions affected both arrivals and departures, leaving passengers stranded and forcing airlines to revise their operations. According to airport authorities, a total of four flight pairs operating on the Ranchi sector were cancelled during the day.
These included two IndiGo flights on the Kolkata–Ranchi–Kolkata route—6E 7089/7014 and 6E 7674/7235—impacting connectivity with eastern India’s major aviation hub. Additionally, IndiGo flight 6E 6287/576 and Air India Express flight IX 1046/1047, both operating between Delhi and Ranchi, were also called off.
Officials said the cancellations were primarily due to persistent fog and reduced visibility in the region, which made safe landing and take-off operations difficult, especially during the morning hours.
Winter weather conditions have been affecting flight schedules across eastern and northern India over the past few days, with Ranchi being no exception. Several passengers expressed inconvenience as travel plans were disrupted at short notice.
Airlines informed affected passengers about cancellations through messages and calls, offering options such as full refunds or rescheduling on the next available flights, subject to weather improvement.
Airport authorities have advised passengers to check the latest flight status with their respective airlines before heading to the airport, as further delays or cancellations cannot be ruled out if weather conditions remain unfavourable.
With foggy mornings continuing to grip the region, normal flight operations at Ranchi airport are expected to stabilise only after visibility improves later in the day.
