Jamshedpur, Jan 4: A wave of shock and fear gripped the Telco area on Sunday evening when unknown assailants carried out a violent attack with a chappal, killing one youth and seriously injuring another. The incident took place near Azad Market and has left local residents terrified.
The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Sohel, a resident of Khajanchi Mohalla under Jugsalai Police Station. The critically injured youth, identified as Shaheed, lives near Babu Flats. Shaheed is currently undergoing treatment at MGM Hospital, where doctors say his condition remains critical.
According to eyewitnesses, the assailants arrived suddenly at Azad Market and began indiscriminately attacking the victims with a cleaver. Sohel was struck repeatedly and collapsed due to severe injuries. Locals rushed him to the hospital, but he succumbed to massive blood loss on the spot. During the same attack, Shaheed was also struck and sustained serious injuries.
Telco Police arrived promptly, took the body into custody, and sent it for post-mortem examination. Several important pieces of evidence were recovered from the scene, and CCTV footage from nearby cameras is being scrutinized to identify the attackers.
Preliminary investigations suggest a possible personal enmity or old rivalry, but police are probing all angles. A case has been registered at Telco Police Station, and raids are ongoing to apprehend the culprits.
The victims’ families are in deep distress, while locals have expressed fear and anger over the brutal attack. Police officials have assured swift action and promised to bring the perpetrators to justice.
