Jamshedpur, Jan 4: Railway Protection Force (RPF) foiled a major ganja smuggling attempt at Tatanagar railway station early Sunday, arresting two traffickers with 6.08 kg of ganja worth around Rs 3.5 lakh.
The operation was conducted under the directions of Senior Divisional Security Commissioner P Shankar Kutty of Chakradharpur division. Acting on specific intelligence, the RPF intensified surveillance and detained two suspicious youths.
During the search, ganja was recovered from their possession. The accused, identified as Sharma Yadav and Satyanarayan Sahani of West Champaran district, Bihar, revealed they had procured the contraband from Tusra in Odisha and reached Tatanagar by Samaleshwari Express. They were planning to transport it to Bihar for sale at higher prices.
RPF suspects the involvement of a larger network and is verifying their criminal antecedents. Both accused were handed over to Tatanagar GRP after completing legal formalities and an NDPS Act case has been registered.
