Flying squads to check littering at parks

Jamshedpur : JUSCO a civic amenities provider company has decided to target litterbugs at picnic spots during the season. Jusco will launch a campaign to curb littering of food waste and plastics, damaging of flowering plants at these spots.

A senior official of the company said that based on past year’s experience they have decided to set up ‘flying squads’ for targeting the picnickers spreading filth. The squad will be conducting surprise inspection in various parks maintained by them to instill a sense of civic responsibility amongst picnickers.

“We have decided to form flying squads who will be conducting surprise inspections of spots especially on weekends, as it draws large number of picnickers and revelers. They would be targeting those who are found littering at the spots and spread awareness about their civic responsibilities,” said the official.

The surprise inspection team will comprise officials from horticultural wing, corporate communications and CSR department of Jusco and will visit different parks during morning hours on weekends and also locate the bins kept inside the parks for disposing waste.

Apart from the landmark parks like Jubilee Park and Sir Dorabji Tata Park other parks maintained by Jusco are Agrico Jogger’s Park, Shastrinagar Jogger’s Park, Kadma Park, Gangotri Park, Nagarkot Park, Nildih Park , Golmuri Park, Baridih Park, Kagalnagar Park, Golmuri Jogger’s Park, Shatabdi Park, Bhuiyandih Park Laxminagar Park and Sitaramdera Park. Most of the parks have joggers track, landscape, sitting arrangements and children corners.

“This is the peak season for us and we are cashing on the rush. With the beginning of the season people start visiting the zoo for picnics. However, on New Year’s Eve and January 1 we witness the maximum crowd,” said an official of Tata Zoological Park adding that special arrangements have been made for the visitors.

Jubilee Park is favourite zone of the citizens. The park on Monday witnessed huge rush of people who spent their day with family and friends amidst fun and food.

Places like Dimna Lake and Hudco dam also witnessed huge rush. Resorts and motels at NH 33 are cashing on the season. On the other hand, celebrations in most hotels and clubs went began in the evening.

The people were busy dancing on various Bollywood numbers. Hotels in all categories lined up a variety of events to attract people.
