Jamshedpur, July 31: Sakchi Market was struck by a devastating fire that broke out around midnight, leaving three shops reduced to ashes. Among the affected shops was a mobile phone shop, completely gutted in the blaze. The incident occurred on the Muri line, triggering a sensation among shop owners and residents in the area.
The fire was initially noticed by some vigilant individuals staying at the marketplace. They quickly alerted others by raising an alarm, leading to a gathering of a large number of people who attempted to extinguish the flames using water. Simultaneously, the Golmuri-based government fire station was informed, but due to the narrow lanes surrounding the market, the fire tender took around half an hour to reach the location. Unfortunately, by the time it arrived, the fire had already consumed the three shops entirely.
In a display of solidarity, the owners of neighbouring shops rushed to the scene and began evacuating their stocks in fear that the fire might spread further. Thanks to the timely intervention of the fire brigade, the blaze was contained, preventing further damage to other shops.

Although the exact cause of the fire remains uncertain, authorities suspect a short circuit might have triggered the devastating incident. Investigations are underway to ascertain the root cause.
Sakchi market houses more than 2,000 shops, most of them situated on narrow lanes. This poses a constant concern for shopkeepers, as accessibility for fire tenders during emergencies can be challenging.
The extent of property loss resulting from the fire is currently being assessed. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety measures and the need for better infrastructure to prevent such disasters in the future. Authorities are likely to conduct a thorough review to implement safety measures that could protect businesses and livelihoods in the bustling market area.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire was first noticed by some people staying near the marketplace. Thick smoke billowed out of one of the shops, prompting them to raise an alarm and call for assistance. A crowd quickly gathered at the scene, attempting to extinguish the flames by pouring water in a valiant rescue effort.
The Golmuri-based government fire station was alerted, but due to the market’s narrow lanes, it took approximately half an hour for the fire tender to reach the spot. Sadly, by that time, three shops had already been engulfed by the inferno.
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, but preliminary investigations point towards a possible short circuit as the likely trigger. Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the devastating incident.
Authorities are currently estimating the extent of property losses resulting from the fire. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to support the affected shop owners and restore normalcy to the vibrant market.
