Faster Tatanagar Redevelopment, Better Kolhan Rail Links Demanded in Kolkata ZRUCC Meet

Jamshedpur: Accelerating the ongoing redevelopment of Tatanagar Railway Station, expanding passenger amenities, and adding coaches to heavily crowded trains emerged as the top demands raised during the 106th meeting of the Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) of South Eastern Railway in Kolkata on Wednesday.

Committee member Arun Joshi, representing Jamshedpur, Kolhan, and adjoining areas, drove the deliberations to bring the pressing concerns of local passengers to the railway administration.

In addition to the station’s modernization, the demands presented to top officials focused on introducing new train services, upgrading traffic management within station premises, expanding parking facilities, and strengthening overall rail connectivity across the Kolhan region.

Joshi pressed the administration to expedite these passenger-centric projects, reminding officials that Tatanagar operates as one of the most vital hubs under the South Eastern Railway network. He emphasized that the region’s steadily increasing travel demands require immediate fleet expansions and extended train services.

During the session, South Eastern Railway General Manager Anil Kumar Jain and the ZRUCC Chairman felicitated Joshi, recognizing his proactive efforts to advance railway development and passenger welfare in Jharkhand.

Joshi also welcomed the introduction of the Santragachi–Khatipura Express (Train No. 18061/18062) at the meeting, calling it a major milestone for the state. The route creates direct rail connectivity from Tatanagar and Ranchi to Jaipur and other parts of Rajasthan for the first time, offering significant relief to students, tourists, and business travelers.

Reiterating his commitment, Joshi stated that he considers it his foremost responsibility to present the expectations of local commuters directly to the top management to continuously improve the region’s rail infrastructure.
