Farmers of Noamundi turn role models

Noamundi: The farmers of five villages are all set to become role models for the other farmers of Noamundi by growing two crops of paddy in summer.

In summer two crops are cultivated in the villages of Noamundi Basti, Katokoda. Noagaon, Badapasiya and Udajo. The farmars harvest the first crop between October and January, second in the month of May and June.

This year in the month of April itself the summer paddy crop looks green in the field. Hunded acres of land are being used for cultivation by five villages. The farmers of these villages are earning good money by dint of hard work and are leading a happy life despite inflation.

Sukh Ram Soren, a farmer of Noamundi, said, The agricultural assistance that we get from the Government is not sufficient. We still plough our field in the pattern of old age or traditional farming. We do not get sufficient fertilizers, good quality of seed and other agro help.

The crops we yield from our farms are not properly assessed. As result 95 per cent of farmers of Noamundi Block do not get good prices for their production from lamps and we look long at the Government deplorable attitude towards farmers.

Subodh Kumar Pramanik, block agriculture officer, said, We distributed 5 kilogram fertilizer, 6 kilogram Moong seed to each of the 140 farmers for the cultivation of summer crops.
