Ex-minister Dulal Bhuiyan alleges jewellery theft by domestic help

Jamshedpur, June 24: A major theft case has surfaced at the residence of former Jharkhand minister and senior political leader Dulal Bhuiyan, with gold jewellery worth over Rs 2.5 lakh reportedly stolen from his home. In a written complaint lodged at the Sitaramdera police station, Bhuiyan has accused his domestic help, Ramu Kumar, and his relative Rajni Mallik of involvement in the theft.
Police have registered a case and intensified raids to trace the accused.
According to the FIR, the incident occurred between June 21 and June 23. Bhuiyan stated that on the morning of June 21, before taking a bath, he had placed his gold chain and several gemstone-studded gold rings inside a purse kept in a glass-fronted cupboard in his bedroom.
His wife had also kept one of her gold rings in the same purse.
When he returned to the room after completing his bath and morning prayers, the purse containing the valuables was missing.
Initial inquiries within the household yielded no clues regarding its whereabouts.
Bhuiyan alleged that while the domestic help usually cleaned the room only after he had left the house, on the day of the incident Ramu entered the room under the pretext of cleaning while he was in the bathroom.
He suspects the accused took advantage of the opportunity to remove the purse from the cupboard and flee.
The matter came to light when family members began searching for Ramu and discovered that he had disappeared. Subsequent inquiries revealed that he had reportedly left citing an urgent personal matter and had gone to the residence of his relative, Rajni Mallik, in Chhayanagar.
When contacted over the phone and asked to return, Ramu allegedly refused, claiming ill health.
The following day, Bhuiyan summoned Rajni Mallik, who had earlier introduced Ramu for employment and had vouched for him. However, despite questioning, Rajni reportedly denied having any knowledge of Ramu’s whereabouts or the missing jewellery.
Left with no satisfactory explanation, Bhuiyan approached the police and filed a formal complaint.
The former minister estimated the value of the stolen ornaments, including several gold rings embedded with precious astrological gemstones, at more than Rs 2.5 lakh.
Police officials said the case is being treated with utmost seriousness. Raids are underway at suspected hideouts, and efforts have been intensified to apprehend the accused and recover the stolen valuables. Investigators are examining all aspects of the case as the search operation continues.
