Every house in Jamshedpur should have Biogas Waste Management System: Tata Steel UISL MD

Biogas waste management system inaugurated at Pod & Beyond Smart Hotel

Jamshedpur: In a groundbreaking move towards sustainable waste management, Tata Steel UISL Managing Director, Ritu Raj Sinha, expressed his vision for every house in Jamshedpur to adopt a biogas waste management system during a media interaction on Wednesday. Sinha emphasized the importance of managing waste at its source and highlighted the dual benefits of the initiative: effective waste management and the utilization of biogas as a fuel for household needs. Tata Steel UISL is committed to providing full support for the realization of this ambitious goal.

To kickstart this initiative, Ritu Raj Sinha inaugurated the biogas waste management system at the Pod & Beyond Smart Hotel, Bistupur. The system is a collaborative effort between the Jamshedpur Hotel and Restaurant Association (JHRA) and Tata Steel UISL. The joint venture aims to make Jamshedpur the first city in the country to implement biogas-based waste management systems in all hotels and restaurants.

Addressing the gathering, Sinha stressed that the need for food waste management extends beyond commercial establishments to homes and residential societies. She called for widespread adoption of this technology at the household level to make a significant impact on waste reduction.

JHRA president Ravish Ranjan expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting the environmental impact it could have on the region. The Pod & Beyond Smart Hotel and Hotel Madrasi in Bistupur are now the first hotels in Jharkhand to implement the Bio Gas Waste Management System. Ranjan emphasized that the system is expected to save the hotel at least three LPG cylinders per month, contributing to both cost savings and environmental protection.

Furthermore, the by-product of the system serves as valuable fertilizer for plants, promoting a circular economy. Ranjan extended gratitude to Tata Steel UISL for the initiative, stating that it sets the stage for a sustainable future.

Smita Parikh, senior official at JHRA, praised the collaboration and underscored the significance of the partnership in addressing the complex challenge of food waste management in the hospitality sector. The initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat initiative, emphasizing the hospitality industry’s role in converting waste into resources.

The partnership between JHRA and Tata Steel UISL serves as an exemplary model for other sectors, emphasizing the urgent need for sustainable waste management practices in the hospitality sector to contribute to a cleaner, greener future for India.
