Jamshedpur, May 5 : The evaluation of matric and intermediate examinations has started under strict vigil. About 4.31 lakh students appeared in matric and 3.16 lakh appeared for intermediate exams in 2018.
Evaluators of matric and intermediate examinations under the Jharkhand Academic Council ( JAC) seem to be extra cautious this time fearing strict punishment from the board.
With JAC taking steps in improving its standards, it has introduced a new method of scrutiny from this year. An evaluator has to correct an answer sheet and crosscheck the totalling twice before it is fed in the computer. The most important part is that every evaluator has been given a rubber stamp which they have to use in every single copy they check. The stamp bears the name of the evaluator and the name of the college he/she belongs to.
“We are trying our best and I have made it clear that we need to be student friendly. If we receive copies for re-scrutiny this time and we find mistakes in totalling, the evaluators will not be spared. For this we have introduced the rubber stamp so that we know which teacher is responsible for the same. Also we have asked evaluators to speak the double digit numbers because it is many times wrongly heard like 17 for 70. Here teachers have to read ‘seven’ ‘zero’,” said an official.
The council has taken some positive steps to imporve the results this year. Teachers workshop on how to make studies interesting, mock test for science, model questions which have been introduced in the last academic session will be more in frequency this year. The JAC results in intermediate for the past 15 years have been poor especially science which have been around 30-40 per cent.
