EU Expresses Solidarity with India on Pahalgam Anniversary

Brussels (IANS): The European Union expressed solidarity with India on Wednesday as the nation remembered the innocent lives lost in the Pahalgam terror attack. Reaffirming its stance, the EU reiterated its condemnation of terrorism in all forms.

India is observing the one-year anniversary of the massacre, where Pakistan-backed terrorists murdered 26 tourists after identifying them by their religion. The incident remains one of the most brutal targeted attacks on civilians in recent years.

“On the commemoration day of the heinous terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the European Union and its 27 Member States stand in solidarity with the people of India,” the EU stated officially. “Together with their families and the Indian authorities, we honor their memory. We reiterate our outright condemnation of terrorism in all its forms, which can never be justified.”

The attack occurred on April 22, 2025, when The Resistance Front—an offshoot of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba—targeted a group of tourists. The attackers singled out victims by questioning them on their faith and forcing them to recite the Islamic ‘kalima’ to identify non-Muslims. The gunmen killed 25 tourists and a local pony operator who attempted to save them, often shooting victims at close range in front of their families.

In response, the Indian armed forces launched Operation Sindoor on May 6 and 7. Officials described the mission as a focused and measured military action that targeted high-value terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Operation Sindoor demonstrated India’s strategic capability by combining military and non-military measures. The operation successfully neutralized terrorist threats and reinforced India’s zero-tolerance policy while maintaining strategic restraint to prevent further escalation.
