Environmental studies must be made compulsory in school and college

KPS Kadma celebrates Environment Day

Jamshedpur, July 26: Kerala Public School, Kadma in association with The National Academy of Sciences (NASI) Jharkhand Chapter organized a panel discussion to celebrate Environment Day and World Population day on 26th July, 2019. The topic for the panel discussion – �Lessons from the past to the future � Impact of Population on Environment and Climate change.�

Kerala Public School, Kadma is also the recipient of Prestigious IGBC Gold Award. Kerala Public School Director Sharat Chandran and the Principal Sharmila Mukherjee ensures that all the systems and processes of the school are in tune with Environment. The School has incorporated Environment as a part of school curriculum and the students are encouraged to adopt the habits that conserve the natural resources.

The Chief Guest for the event is Dr Suman Mishra, Chief Scientist, HOD Head, NML Burmamines and Member of NASI. The chief guest in her speech urged the students to conserve the environment and make it a habit.

The esteemed panelists for the discussion were Dr. Subhanand Mukesh, Head, Environment Clearance and Compliance, Tata Steel Limited, Dr Kavita Parmar, Chief Patron, NGO Nature; Dr Kiran Shukla, HOD Botany Dept, Graduate Women�s college; Dr Kiran Dubey, HOD, Physics Dept., Graduate Women�s College. The Moderator for the event was Abhishek Sinha, English HOD, Kerala Public School, Kadma. The panelists touched upon the role of Industries in conserving the Environment. They were of the opinion that Environmental studies must be made compulsory in the school and college curriculum.

Students from Kerala Public School, Kadma as well as from other schools in the city participated in this event. 200 students and teachers from different schools attended this programme. A healthy discussion took place on relationship between the population and its effect on environment. Students asked questions on various aspects of environment which were answered by the panelists. Kerala Public School, Kadma is spearheading towards research in the areas of Air Pollution, Water Conservation, Alternative Energy Generation and E waste Management. The event was planned and conducted by Senior School Coordinator, Veena Bhaskar and Physics Teacher Dr Shweta Mishra.
