Chandil: A wild elephant killed a 55 year-old villager, identified as Dashrath Manjhi, in Raipur village under Kandra police station area on Thursday last.
The incident took place late evening when the deceased had gone to the nearby village. Next morning, his body was found in the middle of the forest.
Forest officials and local police officers reached the scene and took the body in their possession. After an inquiry, it was found that the victim was killed by an elephant.
An ex gratia amoung of Rs 20,000 was given to the next of kin of the deceased by the forest department officials.
