Baharagora, April 28: Last Saturday, the decomposed carcass of a baby elephant was discovered in the cashew forest near Lugahara village, adjacent to the West Bengal border under Sandra Panchayat of Baharagora block area. The baby elephant had perished four days earlier in a West Bengal forest and was later dragged by a team of elephants, eventually left near the village of Lugahara on the Jharkhand border.
Despite the presence of a group of 15 elephants, including a baby elephant, near the carcass, the Forest Department team faced difficulty reaching it. By Sunday morning, the elephant calf’s carcass had vanished from the spot, with villagers suggesting that the elephant group had taken it back to the West Bengal border area.
Meanwhile, the Forest Department remained vigilant, closely monitoring the movement of elephants in the region.
