Jamshedpur: The team number 25 comprising election officials deputed by the state Election Commission to keep an eye on election expenses of candidates today seized cash worth Rs 3 lakh from a city resident, one Akhtar Khan, near Adityapur bridge under Bistupur police station area.
It however later released the cash and its immediate possessor following an inquiry into its source and purpose. Senior administration officials said the cash was seized by executive magistrate Nukul Thakur and assistant sub inspector of police Arjun Paswan.
Later the team members tipped off additional deputy commissioner (ADC) about the cash recovery. Akhtar Khan told the team that he had withdrawn the cash from the NIT Jamshedpur branch of State Bank of India at Adityapur.
Administration officials said carrying cash over Rs 50,000 was subject to scrutiny by election officials for the purpose of preventing corruption during elections as per Election Commission guidelines.
