Jamshedpur: The Election Commission has ordered removal of Dumka SP Nirmal Kumar Mishra at the recommendation of the DGP of Jharkhand in connection with the Shikaripara Naxalite attack incident.
The chief election officer of Jharkhand PK Jajoria said the action was taken against the SP following an adverse comment by the state police headquarters against him. The department found the SP guilty of not having made sufficient security arrangements on the day of Lok Sabha election in Shikaripara police station area.
Eight persons including five security personnel were killed in a landmine explosion in Shikaripara on 24th April last on the day of third phase of Lok Sabha election.
Naxalites had attacked the police and election duty staff on their return from booth numbers 101 and 102 in Shikaripara. They triggered a landmine explosion near a bridge when two vehicles carrying security and election duty staff were about to cross it.
Jajoria said the Election Commission has sought three names of IPS officers for posting in Dumka within next 24 hours.
Dumka police were accused of not making sufficient deployment of forces at election booths in Shikaripara on the day of election. Paramilitary jawans were not deployed in the Naxalite-hit areas. Instead district police jawans were pressed into service in such sensitive areas.
