Elderly woman falls victim to thieves posing as spiritual guides in Giridih

Giridih: In another unfortunate incident in the urban area of Giridih, Jharkhand, two individuals posing as spiritual guides victimized an elderly woman, making off with jewelry valued at Rs 2 lakh. The incident unfolded near the Kalibari Chowk temple, a central location in the city. The targets of this fraudulent act were two youths who pretended to be Ayyaba from Haridwar, and the victim was identified as Indubala Singh, an elderly resident of Sharma House, Makatpur Doctor Lane.

The incident occurred around 4:15 pm on Tuesday evening, leaving the elderly woman in a state of distress. The city police station promptly initiated an investigation based on nearby CCTV footage to apprehend the perpetrators.

Narrating the sequence of events, Indubala Singh explained that she had returned home around 4 pm on Tuesday after visiting the Kalibari temple to seek the blessings of Maa Kali. As she was leaving the temple, a young man approached her, commenting on the wrinkles on her face and expressing concern for her apparent worries. Exploiting her vulnerability, the fraudster told her that her husband had passed away three years ago, preying on her emotions.

Soon after, another young man joined the scene, asking the first one to examine his fate. The conversation shifted to the victim, who revealed her desire for freedom from life due to her husband’s demise and her lack of children. The fraudsters manipulated the situation, instructing her to perform rituals involving Rs 2100 and, ultimately, coercing her to hand over her jewelry, which they promptly absconded with.

The incident caused a commotion, attracting nearby residents to the scene. Deepak Sharma promptly informed the city police station, leading to an investigation into the matter. This incident bears resemblance to a previous case a few months ago, where thieves employed a similar modus operandi, snatching jewelry worth around Rs 8 lakh from a woman near Shree Shree Adi Durga Mandap on ICR Road in the city. The police are actively working to prevent further such incidents and bring the culprits to justice
