Jamshedpur, Jan. 19 : In a shocking incident, an eight-year-old boy was set on fire by unidentified criminals under Jagannathpur thana area in West Singhbhum district. The victim has been admitted at Tata Main Hospital’s burn care unit.
The incident took place at Buruhatu village in Jagannathpur. The criminals also attached his mother and subsequently set him on fire in his sleep.
The victim’s mother, Panchadi Pingua (35) was rushed to a hospital in Champua in adjoining Keonjhar district in Odisha. She died at the Champua hospital within an hour. The burnt boy was also admitted at the Champua hospital, but the doctors referred the victim to Tata Main Hospital burn care unit.
The police are investigating the incident however, suspect either something related to land dispute behind the attack or the woman’s illicit relation with anyone.
A police team led by OC, Jagannathpur police station, Awdhesh Kumar Thakur rushed to the spot.
Thakur said the murder victim Panchadi would stay at her parents’ house as her husband, Chandra Behera would stay at another village in the same police station area.
” It is too early to comment but as Panchadi’s house is in the middle of her two brothers, none of them could know exactly when did the assailant entered over the house and inflicted the fatal injury to the woman and set the boy on fire,” the officer-in-charge said. He said the family members of the murder victim and herself had gone to participated in a tribal festival.
Thakur said during the investigation, they found that Chandra Behera is her second husband and she had connection with more than one men. ” We are meeting the relatives to dig out more. We are not in a position to say anything conclusively as the family members is tight-lipped. We expect the mystery behind the attack on the woman and her son will unfold shortly,” said the officer-in-charge.
