Educational staff in Jharkhand stage fast, schools to remain closed on 18th Dec

Ranchi: Over 10,000 teachers and non-teaching staff employed in unfunded educational institutions across Jharkhand observed a fast on Friday, rallying for various demands. As a result, schools and inter colleges are slated to remain closed on December 18th.

The teachers and staff from Intermediate Colleges, High Schools, Sanskrit Schools, and Madrassas are pressing for four times the current grant, recognition as state employees, and the acquisition of these institutions. The fast was organized under the banner of the Jharkhand Financeless Education United Struggle Morcha, with participants expressing their grievances and standing united in their demands.

According to the Morcha, five Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) have written to Education Secretary K Ravi Kumar, questioning the delay in processing a proposal for quadrupling the grant. The proposal had received approval from the then departmental minister five months ago but has not progressed further. The MLAs are seeking clarification on why the proposal has not been forwarded to the Law, Finance, and Cabinet departments for the necessary approvals.
