East Singhbhum to prepare plan worth Rs 150 crore for rural development

Jamshedpur: State rural development minister KN Tripathi on Friday directed the East Singhbhum district administration to send a plan of doubt budget under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) for the current fiscal year.

Department sources said the district administration is to send a proposal worth Rs 150 crore to the rural development department as per the ministerial instructions. Every year, the labour budget of MGNREGS is around Rs 72 crore.

The rural development minister held a meeting to review the progress and status of MGNREGS schemes being run in the district at the district headquarters. The meeting was held at the DC office auditorium. Various schemes run by the state and Central governments were discussed during the meeting.

Tripathi stressed that the district administration should focus on approving more plans for rural development. He said many rural development projects under MGNREGS had not been started in the fiscal year 2014-15. The district administration, he said, should spend at least 30 to 35 per cent of the funds till 30th June under any condition.

The minister further said he would seek information from the district administration on 5th June regarding progress of work on the MGNREGS projects. Funds for the projects will be released to the various districts within next two to four days, he said.

The meeting was also attended by the deputy commissioner (DC) of East Singhbhum, Dr Amitabh Kaushal, deputy development commissioner (DDC) Dr Lal Mohan Mahato, Zila Parishad chairperson Sonia Samant, deputy chairperson Anita Devi and other officials.

The minister asked the block development officers and block programme officers not to give in to the lure of bribery or commission. He also asked district officials to spend Rs 7 crore on Indira Awas scheme. He said all panchayat buildings in the district should be connected to Internet as soon as possible.
