Jharkhand High Court orders bulldozer action on 24 illegal Jamshedpur buildings

Jamshedpur, Jan 14: The Jharkhand High Court has taken a firm stand against rampant illegal construction in Jamshedpur, ordering swift and decisive action against 24 identified unlawful structures across the city.

A division bench of Chief Justice M.S. Sonak and Justice S.N. Prasad directed the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) to demolish the illegal portions of these buildings within one month and submit a compliance report by February 25.

The order was passed while hearing a Public Interest Litigation ( PIL ) filed by Rakesh Jha.

During the proceedings, petitioner’s counsel Akhilesh Kumar Shrivastava argued that large-scale violations of sanctioned building plans had led to chaotic urban growth and serious civic risks.

After hearing the submissions, the court made it clear that the authorities must act without delay and use all necessary force, including demolition, to remove the illegal structures.

The order has sent shockwaves across key commercial and residential zones of the city.

The maximum number of violations have been identified in SNP Area of Sakchi, followed by Ramdas Bhatta in Bistupur, A Block in Dhatkidih, Kagalnagar in Sonari, and the Circuit House area.

These locations are now set to witness immediate enforcement action.

The High Court observed that unchecked and unauthorised construction poses a serious threat to planned urban development and public safety.

By directing time-bound demolitions, the court has signalled zero tolerance for builders and property owners who flout approved plans.

For JNAC, the directive presents a major administrative and logistical challenge, but also an opportunity to restore order in a city struggling with unplanned growth.

For violators, however, the message is unmistakable: illegal structures will not be spared.
