East Singhbhum district chess championship begins in Jamshedpur today

Jamshedpur, July 15: East Singhbhum District Chess Association is set to host the District Open Chess Championship from July 16 to 18 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex. This event will see participants from age 6 to 60 compete for various prizes.

The championship will serve as a selection ground for the East Singhbhum Senior District Chess Team, comprising four women and four men, who will represent the district in the Senior State Chess Championship in Ranchi from July 20 to 23.

The winner of the open category will receive a cash prize of Rs 5000 and a trophy, while the runner-up will be awarded Rs 3500. The third and fourth place winners will receive Rs 2000 and Rs 1000, respectively, along with trophies. Additionally, the top 20 players in the open category will receive cash prizes. Trophies will also be awarded to the top three winners in the under-6, 8, 10, 12, and 14 age groups. The total prize money for the competition amounts to Rs 21,500.

Entries for the championship can be submitted to the district association by July 15. The tournament will commence at 3:30 pm on July 16.
