East India’s first disabled varsity at Ranchi: Jharkhand Minister Champai Soren

Ranchi, July 11: Jharkhand Higher and Technical Education department minister Champai Soren on Thursday reviewed the work progress of his department

He said that eastern India’s first Divyang University will be opened in Ranchi. He stressed on the need to improve the education related infrastructure in the state, so that students do not have to go out for education.

During this meeting, the progress of the work of Pandit Raghunath Murmu Tribal University being built in Jamshedpur was reviewed. The appointment of a new vice chancellor is likely to take place this month. After which the work will progress at a fast pace.

The university for disabled proposed in Ranchi will be the first such educational institution in Eastern India, in which there will be special arrangements for education for Divyang students according to their needs.

There will be special courses and educational equipment for them. Apart from this, the department proposed Navothan Scholarship Scheme. Under this, the government will pay the full course fee of meritorious orphan and disabled students of the state, up to a maximum of Rs 10 lakh per year. Apart from this, these students will be given an assistance of Rs 48,000 per year for residential and food arrangements.

During this meeting, the proposal to renovate 38 other colleges/universities including Jamshedpur Co-operative College and LBSM College was discussed in detail.

A proposal was made to open  new engineering college in Gumla. Along with this, a proposal was made to open new polytechnic colleges in Deoghar, Barhi (Hazaribagh), Patratu (Ramgarh), Bundu (Ranchi), Jamshedpur and Rajnagar (Seraikela – Kharsawan) of the state.

In this meeting, the proposal to open new universities in Giridih, Sahebganj, Deoghar, Khunti, Gumla and Jamshedpur.
