Jamshedpur, Aug 28: With dengue cases on the rise, doctors in Jamshedpur are urging people to remain alert and seek medical help at the earliest signs of the disease. Global health guidelines from WHO and CDC note that dengue progresses through three stages—febrile, critical, and recovery—making early detection vital.
The febrile stage begins about 5–7 days after infection and can last up to a week. Patients often suffer from high fever, severe headache, joint and muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, and rashes. Children are more prone to vomiting and skin eruptions, while adults usually report severe body aches.
The critical stage, seen in around 5% of patients, is the most dangerous. It may involve persistent vomiting, abdominal pain, unusual bleeding, liver enlargement, or extreme fatigue. If untreated, this stage can lead to bleeding, respiratory distress, organ failure, or even death.
“The key to managing dengue is early recognition of warning signs. Persistent vomiting, abdominal pain, or unusual bleeding should never be ignored. High-risk groups like infants, the elderly, and patients with chronic illnesses must seek hospital care immediately if symptoms worsen,” said Dr. Ram Kumar, a Jamshedpur-based physician.
Doctors also caution that recovery may take weeks, and many patients continue to face fatigue and depression even after discharge.
