Focus will be on strengthening technical education, says VC
Jamshedpur, March 23: Dr Ela Kumar formally assumed charge as the new Vice-Chancellor of Jamshedpur Women’s University on Monday, receiving a warm welcome from students and faculty. The occasion was marked by traditional Jharkhandi dance performances and rhythmic clapping by NSS volunteers.

The Dean of Student Welfare, Dr Kishwar Ara, welcomed Dr Kumar with a bouquet and delivered the opening address. The Teachers’ Association also organised a farewell for outgoing Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Anjila Gupta along with a welcome ceremony for the new Vice-Chancellor.

In her address, Dr Ela Kumar assured that she would build upon the work done by her predecessor. She said, “Our priority is to carry forward the work already accomplished and take the university to new heights with the support of all stakeholders.” She emphasised collaboration and highlighted the importance of strengthening technical education in the university.

Dr Kumar also acknowledged the shortage of staff but stressed that work must continue in a positive and constructive environment. She expressed confidence that collective efforts would help overcome challenges and ensure steady progress.
Outgoing Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Anjila Gupta shared her emotional connection with the institution, stating that she had witnessed the university grow like her own child despite facing several challenges. She appreciated the support of her team during her tenure.
Senior officials, including Controller of Examinations Dr Rama Subramanian, Finance Officer Dr Javed Ahmed, and Registrar Dr Salomi Kujur, also spoke on the occasion. They shared their experiences of working with Prof. Gupta and assured full support to Dr Ela Kumar in her new role.
The event also featured a Ghazal performance by Dr. Sanatan Deep. On this occasion, Dr. Deepa Sharan, Dr. Annapurna Jha, former Registrar Rajendra Jaiswal, Dr. Ratna Mitra, Dr. Rizwana Parveen, Dr. Kamini, Dr. Sonali Singh, Dr. Manisha Titus, Dr. Rupali Patra, Dr. Pushpa Kumari, Dr. Gloria Purti, Dr. Anamika, Dr. Madhuri, and Rinku were present.
