Jamshedpur: District police organized a public meeting in Shankarda village of Potka on Sunday with the view to prevent repetition of mob lynching incidents. The panchayat representatives and villagers of Potka and Jadugora were present on the occasion along with the local police officials.
Addressing the gathering, Zila Parishad member Pratima Rani Mandal said the villagers should not pay heed to rumours of any kind related to child lifting or any other crime or incident. The villagers should not forward any such misleading messages on Whatsapp, Facebook or any other social media sites. Instead of forwarding the messages, the villagers should inform the police, she said.
The Officer In-charge of Potka PS Arvind Prasad Yadav said the villagers should not assault or punish any stranger following rumours of child-lifting. Mobile phones should not be misused to spread rumours, he said, warning the villagers of strict action in case they take the law in their hands.
The Officer In-charge of Jadugora PS Prabhat Kumar was also present on the occasion. Others present included Varun Barik Dhar, Karunamaya Mandal, Sidho Hansda, Virendra Nath Bhakat and Mansa Ram Mandal.
