Jamshedpur, May 18: East Singhbhum district health department is facing crisis of doctors as several medicos posted in the rural areas of the district have joined as tutors at the MGM Medical College in Dimna and its hospital at Sakchi. The district health department is pinning hopes on fresh recruitment of the doctors for filling up the vacuum in the rural belt.
According to sources in the East Singhbhum civil surgeon office, each PHC requires the posting of four doctors, CHC requires eight doctors in each, and 12 doctors are required in the Ghatshila-based sub-divisional hospital while 31 doctors required at the Sadar Hospital at Khaasmahal in Parsudih.
There are 18 primary health centers (PHC), nine community health centers (CHC), one sub-divisional hospital in Ghatshila and one Sadar Hospital in Khashmahal.
The East Singhbhum district civil surgeon, S K Jha said that in all nine out of the 74 doctors and surgeons posted at the rural areas of the district and also the Sadar Hospital in Khasmahal have joined as tutor or tutor-cum-resident doctor at the MGM medical College and medical college hospital respectively from May 6.
“We are facing tough times here. Eight doctors and one surgeon who would attend to the patients at PHCs and CHCs located in the remote rural areas have turned tutors at the medical college. We have fallen short of doctors at the rural areas,” said Jha.
The civil surgeon said that said that they had a sanctioned strength of 176 doctors in all the PHCs, CHCs and also at the sub-divisional hospital in Ghatshila as well as in Sadar Hospital in Khasmahal.
Jha said the state government has a plan to recruit more doctors in the months to come and the problems of doctors at the government-run centers at the rural areas can be subsided only when fresh appointment of doctors is made.
The doctors, who have joined MGM Medical College and Hospital on May 6, include Ajay Prasad, Subham Kumar, surgeon, Chandrika Hansda, Alok Ranjan Mahato, Soni Kumari, Subhas Modi, Pinki Kumari and Mrityunjay Singh.
Mrityunjay Singh who has joined as a tutor-cum-resident doctor at the MGM Medical College and Hospital confirmed his new posting at the medical college hospital.
