District Congress prepares for Assembly polls with Congress Apke Dwar

Jamshedpur: District Congress president of East Singhbhum Vijay Khan has announced to launch Congress Apke Dwar, a programme aimed at contacting the rural masses and strengthening the organization.

Party sources revealed that the mass contact programme was planned in view of the Assembly elections in Jharkhand expected to be held in three to four months. The party leaders have divided rural parts of East Singhbhum into 17 blocks. For each block, a member in-charge has been nominated. The members in-charge will submit report of their plans and activities to the district president, district in-charge Jawaharlal Sinha and MLA of Jamshedpur West Banna Gupta.

Based on the report, the Congress Apke Dwar programme will be launched within a week. In the second phase, conference of party activists will be organized in each of the Assembly segments.

The programme will conclude with a district level function. Depending upon the results and response to the programme, Congress leaders of the state will invite party president Sonia Gandhi or vice president Rahul Gandhi to attend the concluding day function. This was announced today by Vijay Khan.

Asked about the weak hold of the party in the district, Khan said the party was weak in rural areas and that it will be strengthened there ahead of the Assembly elections.

The district president admitted that the party activists failed to take the good work done by the United Progressive Alliance led Central government during the Lok Sabha elections. Apparently trying to avoid allegations of factionalism on the district Congress after his appointment as the president, Khan said the party was going strong notwithstanding the rift between several members. He said the party members united at the time of struggle brushing aside their differences.

The party needs to do some introspection ahead of the Assembly polls. We will bring together all veteran members in the party as well as young members. Dissident party leaders should place their suggestions and complaints in a dignified manner. An attempt will be made to solve the issues, said Khan.
