Jamshedpur: Dishom Guru Memorial Library Now Open to Public

Jamshedpur: In a major push to revive the city’s reading culture, the East Singhbhum district administration has officially opened the Dishom Guru Memorial (DGM) Library in Sakchi. Located at the Dinshaw Memorial Municipal Building on Straight Mile Road, the facility now offers a structured membership system that allows residents to take books home for the first time.

The library operates daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, providing a modern, quiet sanctuary for students and book lovers. With a vast collection of nearly 8,000 titles spanning diverse academic and literary subjects, the administration expects the center to become Jamshedpur’s premier knowledge hub.

New Membership and Fee Structure

To streamline access, Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi has fixed a one-time registration fee based on age groups:

  • Children (6–16 years): ₹100

  • Students (16–25 years): ₹300

  • Adults (25–60 years): ₹500

  • Senior Citizens (60+ years): ₹100 (Concessional)

  • Specially-Abled Persons: Free of cost (Inclusive initiative)

Residents can register either by scanning a QR code online or by visiting the library with a photo ID, address proof, and a passport-sized photograph.

Borrowing Facility Launched

In a move to encourage continuous learning, the library now permits registered members to borrow books. The administration has categorized borrowing fees into monthly, quarterly, and annual plans:

  • Children: ₹50 (Monthly) / ₹120 (Quarterly) / ₹550 (Annual)

  • Students: ₹100 / ₹270 / ₹1,100

  • Adults: ₹150 / ₹420 / ₹1,700

  • Senior Citizens: ₹120 / ₹330 / ₹1,300

Strengthening Educational Infrastructure

Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi expressed confidence that the library will foster deep intellectual engagement across the region. He noted that the new borrowing facility adds a layer of convenience that will attract more youth to the habit of reading. This progressive initiative stands as a significant step by the district administration to strengthen Jamshedpur’s educational infrastructure and promote community knowledge-sharing.
