Jamshedpur, Dec 5: The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI), Jamshedpur Unit, has unearthed a large-scale fake billing and tax evasion racket involving transactions worth several crores.

In a significant operation, the agency arrested iron trader Pramod Kumar Agrawal for allegedly issuing bogus invoices and conducting substantial business without paying GST.

The action was carried out under the directive of Jyoti Kumar Buguna, Additional Director General of the Patna Zonal Unit, and led by Additional Director Sarthak Saxena.

Acting on credible intelligence inputs, DGGI teams conducted extensive raids for three consecutive days at multiple premises linked to Agrawal in Daltonganj.

During the searches, officials recovered crucial documents and digital evidence pointing to widespread fake billing and suspicious financial transactions.

Preliminary scrutiny of these documents indicated a network involving tax evasion running into several crores.

Agrawal was arrested late Thursday night in Daltonganj and brought to Jamshedpur.

At the DGGI office in Sakchi, officials questioned him for several hours and recorded his statement. He was later taken to MGM Hospital for a mandatory medical examination.

On Friday, following completion of medical formalities, he was produced before the Economic Offences Court for further judicial proceedings.

According to DGGI officials, initial findings suggest that the bogus billing network is much larger than previously suspected.

The involvement of several other firms and traders is likely, and more names may emerge as the investigation progresses.

Forensic analysis of seized documents and devices is underway to map the full extent of the network.
