Jamshedpur, Dec 5: A late-night attempt to steal a car and a motorcycle in the Kapali OP area was foiled after police swiftly acted on a tipoff and arrested a youth with the help of CCTV footage.
The accused has been sent to judicial custody.
According to Kapali OP in-charge Dheeranjan Kumar, the incident occurred around midnight on December 4.
Gaushnagar Sal Bagan resident Afzal Faiz informed police that a youth was trying to break the locks of his car and motorcycle parked outside his house.
Acting immediately, a police team reached the spot and began investigation.
CCTV cameras installed nearby were examined, and footage clearly showed a young man attempting to break the vehicle locks.
Based on this evidence, the police started working on identifying the suspect and tracking his whereabouts.
Relying on the footage and local inputs, the police conducted intensive raids in and around Gaushnagar.
During the operation, the suspect was identified as Mohammad Salamat Ansari (23), a resident near Bismillah Hall, Gaushnagar Football Ground. He was soon detained from his residence.
During interrogation, the accused initially claimed innocence, but the CCTV footage and technical evidence contradicted his statements.
A case has been registered against him for attempted vehicle theft.
Police are also verifying whether he has any prior criminal record or links to a vehicle theft gang.
On Friday morning, Salamat Ansari was produced before the court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
Local residents have appreciated the prompt action taken by the police. Authorities have appealed to the public to report any suspicious activity immediately to help prevent crime.
