Devotees flock Jamshedpur temples for last Monday of Saawan

Jamshedpur: The city reverberated with chants of “Har Har Mahadev” as devotees thronged temples across Bistupur, Sakchi, Kadma, and Jugsalai to mark the last Monday of the auspicious Saawan month, dedicated to Lord Shiva. From the break of dawn, the atmosphere was infused with the fragrance of incense and flowers, the ringing of temple bells, and the sound of devotional hymns.

At the famed Beldih Kalibari temple in Bistupur, long queues of devotees carrying milk, honey, and bel leaves patiently awaited their turn to perform the ritual ‘Abhishek’ (ceremonial bathing) of the Shiva Linga. Priests, dressed in saffron robes, guided worshippers through the sacred rituals, chanting mantras and bestowing blessings. “Saawan is a very special month for us. Every Monday we seek the blessings of Lord Shiva for peace and prosperity,” said Anita Devi, a regular devotee.

In Sakchi, the Shiv Mandir drew large crowds. The temple premises were adorned with colorful decorations, while the Shiv Linga was beautifully embellished with fresh flowers. Special aartis and bhajans performed by local artists heightened the spiritual fervor. Rajesh Kumar, a devotee, shared, “The energy here is amazing. Singing bhajans together brings a sense of unity and spiritual fulfillment.”

The Shiv Temple in Kadma saw devotees performing ‘Jalabhishek’, offering holy water to the deity as a gesture of purification. The temple’s tranquil surroundings encouraged meditation and prayer. “Coming here during Saawan gives me immense peace. It’s a time to connect deeply with the divine,” said Shalini Mishra, a local resident.

Jugsalai’s Shiva temple was equally vibrant, with rangolis crafted by women devotees adding to the festive charm. The temple courtyard resonated with devotional music, while arrangements for prasad distribution ensured every worshipper received blessings. “The temple is like a second home to me during Saawan,” said Prakash Sharma, a devotee from Jugsalai.

The observance of the last Monday of Saawan brought together people of all ages, reaffirming the deep-rooted spiritual traditions of the city and the enduring devotion to Lord Shiva.
