Deoghar police arrest four cyber criminals from Sarath forest

Deoghar: Deoghar police have arrested four cybercriminals from the Purnikarahaiya forest in Sarath. Police officials said that this operation was another major success in their campaign against cybercrime.

The police officials received a tip-off about a group of youths who were using laptops and mobile phones to commit online fraud. They were hiding near the Purnikarahaiya forest in the Sarath police station area. Upon confirming the information, a police team rushed to the spot and arrested the four young men.

The arrested youths include Rohit Thakur, Niranjan Pandit, both residents of Darpa, Ajit Das, and Dilip Mehra, residents of Sagrubad village. Police recovered four mobile phones and three SIM cards from them.

During interrogation, the youths confessed that they used to cheat people by posting fake customer care numbers on Google and posing as Flipkart, Amazon, Airtel Payment Bank, and PhonePe support staff. They used to call people and deceive them in the name of cashback offers or card activation, and then withdraw money from their bank accounts by getting them to share their mobile screens. They also promised several of their victims benefits under the PM Kisan Yojana and bank loans. Police said that among those arrested, Ajit Das has previously been accused in a complaint registered at the Cyber ​​Police Station, Deoghar.

Cyber ​​police station in-charge Devesh Kumar Bhagat stated in a press conference that the police are carrying out crackdowns on all such online fraud gangs operating in their jurisdiction. Bhagat appealed to people not to trust any calls from unknown customer care numbers without verifying them through Google. “Do not share any unknown links or OTPs,” he added. The raiding team included Police Inspector Shivnarayan Kamat, SI Visheshwar Kumar, and Sarath Assistant Police Station in-charge Deepak Kumar Sah.
