Students of Sacred Heart Convent School, Jamshedpur, embrace eco-friendly jute bags

Jamshedpur: The Environment Club of Sacred Heart Convent School, Jamshedpur, has successfully re-launched the use of eco-friendly jute bags on 8th December 2025, for students and teachers, replacing single-use plastic and synthetic alternatives.

The campaign saw the distribution of approximately 2,500 durable, attractive jute bags to students across all grades, teachers, sub-staff, and alumni.

Manager and Primary Coordinator Sister M. Serena addressed the assembled students and faculty, emphasizing the long-term impact of this shift. “For too long, our planet has suffered the consequences of single-use plastics. By relaunching the use of jute bags, we are not just switching materials; we are instilling a lifelong value of sustainability in our students.”

Principal Sister M. Steffi stated. “Jute is biodegradable, renewable, and locally sourced, making it the perfect choice to lead our school’s green revolution.”

The initiative aligns with the growing national and global movement to curb plastic pollution and support sustainable materials. It is boost for the workers of the small-scale industries as it provides employment to them.

The Jute Bags campaign is themed around the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation (2025). Each student received a durable jute bag, prominently featuring a blue-and-white colour scheme depicting a glacier and the slogan ‘Reuse, Reduce and Recycle’.

“Our blue and white bags are not just for books; they are a daily reminder that every conscious choice helps keep the world’s ice caps safe. We are replacing climate-harming plastics with the Golden Fibre,” said moderator of the Environment Club, teacher Samarpita Biswas.
