Jamshedpur : Cases of dengue are on the rise in the city and its adjoining areas. According to information a total of 163 dengue positive cases have been confirmed through the blood sample test done by the MGM Medical College’s microbiology department. Presently, six dengue-positive patients are admitted in various hospitals, including at the MGM Medical College and Hospital.
Sahir Pall, district officer for the Centre’s Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), who monitors the cases of vector-borne diseases in the city, said that till September 28, the number of dengue positive cases was 158.
District civil surgeon, S.K. Jha however claimed that though cases of dengue has declined and not much fresh cases of the disease is being reported but they want to implement dengue action plan effectively as they suspect there must be several pockets which are prone to mosquito breeding.
Jha said that the district health department officials are already carrying out the dengue action plan by creating awareness about the disease among the people and also by carrying out anti-larval operation in those areas from which maximum number of positive cases of dengue had turned up in the city hospitals.
Deputy Commissioner, Amit Kumar said he had already asked the additional district magistrate (law and order) for deputation of the executive magistrates for deputation in the civil surgeon office.
The places which are prone to mosquito breeding are Dimna Bustee in Mango, Bhuiyadih in Sakchi, Kitadih in Parsudih and Jugsalai.
“We need to understand that mosquitoes that carry the virus of dengue do not come from outside, rather they generate from the household things like flower-pots, coolers water, rejected tyre kept on the roof top or in the corner of the garden. So we must ensure that there is no such place where water is stagnant for some time,” said the official.
The health centers across the district have been asked to provide line list of patients with symptoms for such diseases on a 24 hourly basis. The lists of patients contain name, age and sex, along with full address of the patient undergoing treatment at a health center. This would help us in locating not only the patient but also taking preventive measures in the residential area of the affected persons to prevent vector breeding centers,� said the official.
Preventive measures includes coordinating with the district health department (read district malaria officer) in carrying out spraying of bleaching powders, DDT and anti larvicidal in affected areas identified on the basis of location of patients undergoing treatment at health centers.
