Delay in appointment of subject teachers: Rakesh Pandey demands policy intervention from Jharkhand government

Jamshedpur, April 8: Rakesh Kumar Pandey, State President of the Jharkhand State University Contract Teachers Association (JSUCTA), has urged the state government to address the irregularities in the appointment process of university teachers. In a strongly worded statement, Pandey pointed out that a common advertisement was issued in 2018 for regular and backlog posts in various universities and affiliated colleges across Jharkhand, prompting thousands of eligible candidates to apply.

However, even after several years, appointments have only been completed in about half of the subjects. Pandey questioned the fairness of this prolonged delay, highlighting the disparity in appointment years — ranging from 2021 to 2024 — despite all applications being made under the same 2018 advertisement.

“This gap of three to five years gives undue seniority to those appointed earlier, while the others suffer an irreversible career loss. Will the government compensate for this lost time?” he asked.

He further added that many need-based teachers had been working in colleges and universities since 2018 and had also applied under the same JPSC advertisement. Pandey urged the government to regularize these teachers from the date of the first appointment under that advertisement.

He emphasized that all such appointments were made in accordance with UGC norms and the state’s reservation roster. To avoid future seniority-related disputes, he appealed for a policy-level solution from the government and urged it to approach the matter with a positive outlook.
