Jamshedpur homemaker conquers Mount Kilimanjaro

Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur resident Deepti Khemani added another chapter to the city’s adventure history by successfully scaling Mount Kilimanjaro, the world’s highest free-standing mountain. Demonstrating remarkable endurance, the 53-year-old reached Uhuru Peak—standing at an altitude of 5,895 meters—on February 27, 2026, at 7:45 am. Tanzania National Parks has issued an official climbing certificate to confirm her achievement.

From Pastime to Passion

A resident of the CH Area and a mother of two, Khemani credits her foray into adventure to the inspiration of Premlata Agarwal, the oldest Indian woman to scale Mt. Everest. What began as a simple pastime quickly evolved into a passion, leading her to target the iconic Tanzanian peak.

Mount Kilimanjaro presents trekkers with a grueling mix of challenging terrain and extreme high-altitude conditions. Reaching the summit requires not just physical stamina, but immense mental strength and precise acclimatization.

A Family’s Support

Khemani acknowledges her family as the backbone of her success. Her husband, businessman Prakash Khemani, her son Ojasvi, daughter-in-law Eva, and daughter Vidushi consistently motivated her to look beyond her role as a homemaker.

“My family has been a constant support to me,” Deepti remarked. “They have always motivated me to take on adventures.”

Inspiring the Steel City

The local community and adventure enthusiasts have widely praised Khemani’s ascent. Fellow adventure lovers in Jamshedpur noted that conquering such an iconic peak requires weeks of rigorous endurance training. Her success highlights a growing interest in adventure sports among residents of the Steel City and proves that age serves as no barrier to conquering new heights.
