Ranchi: The Hemant Soren government has expanded its cabinet with the re-induction of Mahagama Assembly MLA, Deepika Pandey Singh, as a minister. She was sworn in by Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, marking her return to the cabinet. Deepika had previously served as the Minister for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Cooperative Department, and Disaster Management in the Hemant Soren 2.0 government.
Deepika has once again proven her political strength by securing a consecutive victory in the Mahagama Assembly elections. She defeated BJP candidate Ashok Bhagat by a substantial margin of 18,645 votes, garnering 1,14,069 votes compared to Bhagat’s 95,424 votes.
Coming from a prominent political family, Deepika’s mother was long associated with the Congress, while her father-in-law, Awadh Bihari Singh, served as the MLA of Mahagama thrice and was also a minister in the Bihar government.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Congress initially nominated Deepika for the Godda seat, but due to caste considerations, the ticket was handed to Pradeep Yadav. Deepika accepted the decision gracefully, which paved the way for her reappointment as a minister in the Hemant Soren cabinet.
