Ranchi: Bishunpur MLA Chamra Linda has been inducted into the Hemant Soren cabinet, making him one of the six JMM members taking ministerial oaths. Chamra Linda’s political journey is a compelling story of rebellion and reconciliation within his party. Having been an MLA since 2009, Chamra Linda is well-known for his consistent victories in the Bishunpur assembly seat. In the 2024 elections, he secured a commanding win, defeating BJP’s Sameer Oraon by a significant margin of 32,756 votes. He received a total of 1,00,336 votes, while Sameer Oraon trailed with only 67,580 votes.
However, his political path has not been without controversy. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Chamra Linda rebelled against the JMM by contesting as an independent candidate from the Lohardaga seat, a decision that led to his suspension from the party. The reason behind his rebellion was the seat allocation for the Congress, which angered him. Despite his third-place finish in the Lok Sabha elections, Chamra Linda reconciled with the JMM, which later fielded him again in the Bishunpur assembly election, where he triumphed.
Chamra Linda’s political journey began in 2005 when he contested as an independent candidate but lost narrowly by 569 votes. His persistence paid off in the following years as he joined the Rashtriya Kalyan Paksha and won the Bishunpur seat in 2009. He went on to win re-election in 2014, 2019, and 2024 under the JMM banner. Now, with his inclusion in the cabinet, Chamra Linda’s rise to political prominence is marked by both resilience and strategic alliances.
