Jamshedpur, Jan 10: A tragic road accident claimed the life of a motorcycle rider and left his wife critically injured near the Sitaramdera Bus Stand under the Sitaramdihra police station area on Saturday evening.
The accident occurred around 4 pm when an out-of-control chassis truck was heading towards Bhuiyandih.
According to preliminary information, the speeding chassis hit a motorcycle carrying a couple, crushing them on the busy stretch of road.
The impact was so severe that the bike got stuck under the heavy vehicle, killing the rider on the spot.
The deceased has been identified as Lal Kumar, a resident of Vishwakarma Colony on the Mango–Dimna Road.
His wife, Neelam Sharma (32), who was riding pillion, sustained serious injuries in the crash.
She was immediately rushed to hospital by the police and is currently undergoing treatment.
Doctors have described her condition as critical.
Lal Kumar is survived by his wife and two children. He was employed with an insurance company and was the sole earning member of the family.
The sudden tragedy has left the family devastated and the local community in shock.

Following the incident, the police seized both the motorcycle and the chassis truck from the spot.
However, the driver of the chassis fled soon after the mishap.
A search operation has been launched to trace and arrest him.
The Sitaramdera police have registered a case and initiated further investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances of the crash and fix responsibility.
Police have also appealed to eyewitnesses to come forward with any information that could help in tracking down the absconding driver.
The incident once again highlights the growing concern over reckless driving and heavy vehicle movement on city roads, posing serious threat to commuters.
