Jamshedpur, July 2: The Jharkhand Sikh Coordination Committee and the Sikh Samaj Andolan Samiti today appealed to the district administration and the Jharkhand government to deliver swift justice to the family of the late Himanshu Singh while maintaining strict law and order in the city.

In a letter addressed to the district administration, Sardar Avtar Singh Bhatia—President of the Sikh Samaj Andolan Samiti and Senior Advisor to the Jharkhand Sikh Coordination Committee—noted that the administration has already accepted the bereaved family’s charter of demands following Singh’s murder in the high-profile DD Bar shooting. Bhatia stressed that the government must now prioritize the prompt implementation of those commitments to restore public confidence.
Key Demands Raised by the Committee
Addressing the highly charged situation in the city, the Sikh coordination body laid out a practical legal and financial roadmap to support the victim’s family:
- Fast-Track Prosecution over ‘Encounter’: Commenting on the family’s emotional demand for a police encounter of the accused, Bhatia clarified that such an action is neither legally viable nor within the administration’s powers. Instead, he urged the authorities to prosecute the killers through a fast-track court to ensure they receive the strictest punishment under the law.
- ₹1 Crore Financial Compensation: The committee strongly backed the family’s demand for financial stability, demanding that the Jharkhand government immediately grant ₹1 crore to secure the future of Himanshu Singh’s widow and his elderly parents.
- Compassionate State Job: While acknowledging that the district administration cannot directly hand out government jobs, the committee demanded that the Hemant Soren-led state government step in to provide compassionate employment to one eligible member of the victim’s family.
Appeal for Peace Amid Prohibitory Orders
Expressing deep concern over Jamshedpur’s deteriorating security and volatile atmosphere, the committee highlighted that the administration has already clamped down on public gatherings by imposing prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) across the city.
In light of these restrictions and tomorrow’s proposed shutdown, the committee sought clear guidelines from the administration regarding the agitation. They requested all community stakeholders to act responsibly, ensure peaceful protests, and prevent any elements from disrupting communal harmony or public peace in the steel city.
