Jamshedpur, May 15: East Singhbhum district administration has pulled its socks to deal effectively with water scarcity in different parts of the city in view of the ongoing summer season.
Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar convened a meeting to chalk out a strategy to resolve the issue and maximize water supply to areas deprived of the same due to soaring mercury level and depleting ground water table. He directed the officials concerned to take necessary measures to supply drinking water in areas witnessing scarcity. He also asked them to issue helpline numbers for resolution of water-related and other civic issues. He said a register pertaining to drinking water issue should be maintained by the district officials concerned.
The DC first reviewed the water scarcity in Jugsalai. Jugsalai Municipality Special Officer informed him that water is supplied every morning and evening for two hours in the various localities of Jugsalai.
The DC said a physical inspection of all hand-pumps should be carried out across the district and a report should be submitted in this regard. He ordered water supply through tankers in areas where hand-pumps were not functioning.
Reviewing Moharda water supply project, the DC said connections should be provided to maximum number of houses. He said special camps should be held to provide water connections to people. He directed the executive engineer of Drinking Water and Sanitation Department to achieve the target of providing 24,000 connections under the Chhota Govindpur water supply project.
