UCIL management to seek workers opinion on wage revision proposal

Mail News Service

Jadugoda, May 14: After the failed tripartite talks on wage revision that was chaired by Chaibasa Assistant Labor Commissioner and representatives of the Uranium Corporation of India Ltd (UCIL) and labor unions, a new initiative has been planned by which the company management would go directly to the workers and seek their opinions on the wage revision proposals on a five year term. The date for the meeting has been fixed for May 20. The UCIL management proposes to increase wages of workers by 22 percent including all allowances.

The company has, for retired employees, provisioned for free OPD treatment facility at the UCIL hospital and an annual medical insurance policy for Rs 2.50 lakh with a 10 year tenure tagline.

However, the employees are in a quandary after receiving the managements notification. Many questions have cropped up in their minds. Clarifications on percentage of graded benefits, mines and other allowances have not been provided in the notification.

Other points of concern include quantum of increase in monthly honorarium, minimum and maximum revised basic pay, inclusion or non-inclusion of bonus in the 22 percent increase proposal, merger of 100 percent DA, to name a few interrogations.

The workers also feel that their wage revision should be based on the pattern of the companys officers salary revision. It may be mentioned here that the wage revision is pending since March 2018.
