Jamshedpur: The deputy commissioner (DC) of East Singhbhum has directed the district traffic and transport departments to take stringent action against violators of traffic and safety norms. He asked the traffic cops to take exemplary action against the offenders, especially those driving in inebriated condition and not wearing helmet while driving.
Addressing a meeting attended by the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Anup T Mathew and the district transport officer (DTO), the DC said that it was being seen that out of 10 motorists, six did not wear helmet. Such motorists were flouting norms with audacity and impunity, he commented.
Further asking the traffic officials and the DTO, Kumar said that the cases of overloading were going up. He asked them to take help from the sub divisional officer (SDO) of Dhalbhumgarh and Ghatsila to put reins on the offenders. He said that fines should be collected from the accused persons.
He said that such persons should also be prosecuted.
The DC went on to point out the problem of drink driving on city streets, especially by youths. He said that many youths were driving at breakneck speed under the influence of addictive substances.
He asked the drug inspector as to how such youths managed to get addictive syrup from drug stores without doctor�s prescription. He directed the drug inspector to conduct surprise raids at drug stores where such addictive syrups were available over the counter without doctor�s prescription and also check their stock.
The DC reviewed the performance of various other departments including mining, excise, forest, electricity, pollution control and drinking water and sanitation departments. He asked the excise department officials to arrest the kingpin of the liquor mafia which was behind the sale of illicit liquor in the city and other parts of the district. He was told that raids were being conducted in Sitaramdera, Chhayanagar and Birsanagar localities.
The DC asked the mining and forest officials to tighten noose around illegal mining mafia members with the help of the mining task force. He sought information on illegal mining reported from different parts of the district. He was told by the forest officials that a forest land encroachment case was reported from Patamada and that FIRs were lodged against several persons in this connection.
Kumar asked the drinking water and sanitation authorities to ensure that all areas in the district get drinking water irrespective of power cuts. He also asked the pollution department officials to take action against brick kiln owners who had not got environmental clearance from the pollution department. He was told that out of the 61 brick kiln owners, only 45 had got clearance.
The DC further asked the forest officials to prevent illegal activities in Dalma Wild Life Sanctuary area with the help of the local circle officer, DSP Patamada, forest officials and factor inspector.
Regarding power thefts, the DC asked the electricity department officials and the SDO of Ghatsila to take action against those found guilty of power theft.
He said that action should be taken against rice mill owners in whose vicinity underground water level was found very low and where illegal boring or power connection were detected. He further said that action should be taken against major defaulters of electricity department.
He asked the ACMO of health department to conduct raids in hotels and restaurants to conduct samples of adulterated food and beverages.
He asked the ADC cum officer in-charge of jails to take steps for deputation of a lady doctor in Ghaghidih jail besides deputing a male doctor in Ghatsila. He said that mobile jammers should be made effective in jails to control crime.
