DC directs district officials to tackle dengue menace on war footing

Jamshedpur, Sept 22: Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar today met the Zilla parishad president, vice president along with officials of the health department, notified area committees, JUSCO, Red Cross Society, animal husbandry department and others at the collectorate and took stock of the dengue situation prevailing in the district. Civil Surgeon Dr. SK Jha, while discussing the malady, enunciated that dengue carrier mosquitoes infested clean water and their larvae, instead of floating, settled at the bottom of water utensils.

He also informed that primary treatment could bring dengue under control but delay could make the illness severe and life threatening. The DC asked the health and PR departments to work in tandem to spread awareness through vigorous campaigns.

The DC took serious note of a suggestion that people who did not cooperate with officials during inspection of homes or courtyards or other open premises where stagnant water had collected, should be dealt with sternly and fines imposed on such erring people.

The deputy commissioner said that he would take adequate steps in the matter.

The Health Department provided a data that stated that 70,828 larvae had been identified through inspection of 28,030 homes in 2016. One hundred thirty cases of dengue, one of chikungunya and nine cases of Japanese encephalitis have come to light this year.

The deputy commissioner took stock of the present measures available to counter the mosquito menace. He directed that fogging operations and campaigns be taken up in right earnest and teams be formed for anti larvae campaigns. These steps should be taken up ion war footing he said. He directed the Civil Surgeon to file daily reports on the activities and developments in these realms.

The Zilla parishad vice president stated that that treatment cost at Telco and Tata Motors hospitals had been enhanced since last month and sought the DC�s intervention in the matter.
