Jamshedpur: Panic gripped the area near Jubilee Park Gate No. 1 on Thursday after a youth allegedly snatched a mobile phone from a young woman in broad daylight under the Sakchi police station area.
According to eyewitnesses, the woman was standing by the roadside when the accused suddenly grabbed her phone and tried to escape. Her cries for help alerted passers-by, who chased the youth and caught him within minutes. The accused was restrained by locals before being handed over to the police.
Police reached the spot soon after, took the accused into custody, and brought the situation under control. Officials said the suspect is being questioned to determine whether he was involved in similar incidents or linked to a larger group.
The incident has triggered fresh concerns over security, as Jubilee Park is a prominent public space located close to key administrative offices. Today, the park was overcrowded, being Christmas. People flocked to the park to picnic.
Residents alleged that inadequate police patrolling has led to a rise in such crimes, especially during peak hours. The area has witnessed multiple criminal incidents in recent days, including thefts at several shops earlier this week.
Locals have demanded increased surveillance and regular patrolling to deter miscreants. Police have assured residents that security measures will be strengthened and strict action will be taken to prevent further incidents.
